I’ve seen this in-store at an o2 shop in London (Kilburn High Road). You can’t find it on their website, so I called O2 and apparently it won’t be available online (they didn’t say why), and the only way to get it is off the shelf in-store. That makes no sense to me at all! Why wouldn’t they announce it, and make it available online?

Pricing info I got off the guy in the store:
-It’s free on the o2 “1200″ plan (£45 p/month)
-It costs £146 on the £30 plan
-It costs £97 on the £35 plan
-You cannot buy it outright, use PAYG or a simplicity SIM

On the £35 plan you get a free bolt-on, which you could choose to be “free internet” if you want. Otherwise it’s £7.50 for any bolt-on after that.
These are 18-month plans, didn’t look at the 24 month plans.

Found this posted on phandroid. Posted by someone in the comments. Does anyone know if the phone has launched and if this is true?

http://phandroid.com/2009/07/29/samsung-galaxy-software-update/

So it looks like not even free on £35pm plans. Bummer.

That bit in bold sounds a bit odd unless O2 have decided to create a new version of a SIM card or worse, have the SIM card glued in place Shocked I can understand the not buying it outright as it is an exclusive but Play.com have it on their list as well as the B7610. Decisions decisions!

The other thread on the Galaxy says next monday 10th August.....hopefully one of our respected O2 employees who post on here in their free time will enlighten us as I think the info may be wrong about buying it online.

I think the whole no PAYT and non Simplicity means it won't be sold to pay as you go, therefore you can't gethold of it without contract.

Hmm the 10th. Might well be walking into orange and vodafone to look at the magic and hero at this rate.

I've just spoken to O2 in Cambridge. They told me it wouldn't be in stock until "the end of August"...

Can't see what extra hurdles O2 UK have to jump over than O2 Germany and France. It's rather annoying that there seems to be no firm release date!

I know the given dates are always subject to change but I really would like to see this soon. Its one of the few exciting handsets out there.

Does any O2 rep. have any information?

What the hell is taking them so long? I'm going to have to get the HTC Hero now and I really dont want it!

Does this mean it won't be in 02 shops until the end of August? The website will have it sooner .... i think.

Shocking, I honestly did cut my phone in half after becoming incredibly frustrated with its crapness. So what was once a week without a phone is now a month. Argh!

I phoned the Kilburn store, they have it on display but it is not in stock. I was told to call back tomorrow as new stock is received on Thursdays.

Thanks for the update Laze, let us know what they say tomorrow.

It doesn't bode well though that the main customer services phoneline told me to expect "very end of August" at the earliest. However, they then said it could be in at any time so just keep phoning back. Why all the secrecy? It's as if the big bosses at O2 wont let any of their employees know when phones will be released until a few hours before the phones arrive!

Just got an email back from 02

"Good morning UCS

I understand that you're interested in above fantastic phone and you'd like to know when it'll be available on our network. I'll quickly check this information for you.

Simon, I'm sure you'll be delighted to know that the above fantastic phone will be available with us week commencing 10 August 2009.

I'll be happy to help you with the deals that we have for our customers. We have some amazing tariff which you can have as per usage. In these tariff, you can have free allowance to use for making calls and sending text. To view them, please click on the link below:"

So that indicates it will be on the web on the 10th but not in the shops for a while, must be a supplying issue.

I think O2 email support must be taken with a pinch of salt, their information always tends to be unreliable. Saying that I hope it turns out to be true!

o2 and the Great big Hidden Agenda

Post by fatharry on Thu Aug 06, 2009 8:29 am
Well I can certainly say o2 are sticking to the principle of saying nothing more about this phone, it will be available from the 10th August online, the "From" implies it could be online on the 10th, or Christmas 2010, the customer service chap could not comment on this when queried.

Clearly there is some hidden agenda going on with O2, well, not so hidden really lets face it?, they want to prevent people from buying this phone for as long as possible to maximise the amount of Iphone Sales, pretty disgusting attitude if you ask me.

so Don't hold your breath that it will be in the stores or even on the website come Monday, I doubt we'll see this phone till after their exclusivity deal with Iphone comes to an end!!

I don't think they want to prevent people from buying the phone... they wouldn't of invested their money in it otherwise.

Most likely this is a supply issue.. they have to have enough numbers in to meet the demand or we all start complaining even more.

If anyone is to blame its Peter Jones from dragons den Very Happy 90% of phones come through him.

Come on peter... sort it out.
