Hey guys, as anyone seen o2s twitter, the only option for exsisting 3g owners is to pay off the contract, and start a new one, oh well it was hardly a surprise, i had a feeling thats what would be happening.

I do not mean to be rude... BUT..... o2 Twitter is not run by o2 but by a third party. The info on twitter may not be correct.... so please wait before posting. Until it is on o2.co.uk its not set in stone! |

The info they give about basic info is in the o2 system but as the sytem has not been upated yet how can they give this info. I am not saying they are not giving correct info out about general o2 issues but in regards to the iphone... it is not upto date... No point putting no upgrades they have not said this on the o2.co.uk website. |

I take it by the time my contract ends in feb i should be able to upgrade for free to the iphone 3gs? I don't really fancy having to pay for it...

Hi
I got my iPhone 3G on launch day so have six months to go before I can have a regular upgrade. I was thinking that I would of paid the remainder of my contract of early so that I could upgrade to the new phone. However if I want a 32GB its looks like I will not get much change out of £400, not sure that its worth it. Might just have to make do with 3.0 and hold out until December. Alex |

At this time, no one knows... Keep ya eyes on the website... but you should have some sort of deal to keep you with o2 |

I got my iphone 3g on launch and iam also available to upgrade in december, however if i cannot upgrade early like the original iphone users could. I will probably buy an unlocked one from germany or france on ebay. And use it on another network, hoping for good news though. O2 have been good for me.

Just as some basic info...
It is not in o2's interest to let people not upgrade at a reduced or free rate, but they have to have some sort of line as to who or when. As said in other post the last 3g iphone was part paid for by o2 so they have to claw back what the paid... that said the contract between o2 and apple and at&t and apple is starting to run out... again it is in O2's best interest now to keep both Apple and iphone users happy to keep the iphone with just o2. Things have been kept close to chest this time round with the very little correct info leaking out. I would look up closer to the time.. again offers also depend on what stock supplies are like. |

The problem with this whole situation is that with the original iPhone, the phone was unsubsidised and the network didn't get any money out of the handset, so it was in their interests to attempt to tie you into a long term deal with a subsidised phone.
Roll on 12 months- now those that took out a contract for an iPhone last July (myself included) are 6 months from the end of their contract and unless the rumours about O2's exclusivity over the iPhone being under threat are not true, it is not in their financial interest to take the hit and upgrade early for free, unless you go for a longer contract. Those who have recently switched to the iPhone 3G certainly won't be offered anything. Then again- IMO it will do O2 no good to starve interest in the phone for those who want to upgrade as it is a high profile handset- it does show how far Apple have come in 12 months though since the release of the 3G. |

They should definitely allow people who have been in there iphone 3g contract since launch to upgrade, on the iphone 3GS launch for free. As in extend the 6 months left onto the new 18 or 24 month contract. In my opinion i think they will allow early upgrades but will add the 6 months onto a new 24 month contract.

From the O2 iPhone page
Quote: Upgrade
If you're already with us on Pay Monthly, you can upgrade to the new iPhone 3G when it's time to upgrade. It's usually the last month of your contract, but you can check at My O2. If you've already got an iPhone, download the new iPhone OS 3.0 software from 17 June and you'll get over 100 new features. Find out more |
