Hi
I had that last year when I upgraded from the first iPhone to iPhone 3g. The first iPhone 3g that I got had a yellow tint to the screen. I made an appointment at the apple store and they just changed it. Alex |

dont like it. anyone else noticed I had this problem with the 3G. I bought 2 phones, one cool blue the other warm yellow. At the Apple Store they swapped out the yellow phone 3 times searching for a blue one but they were all yellow and Apple eventually refused to swap again. _________________ Bosie |

can you please post a screenshot of your yellow screen so that I can compare it with my 3GS.
I can tell you that the 3G is warmer than the 2G and the 3GS is even warmer "yellower" than the 3G by design, apple claims its easier on the eyes. check this link it has photos comparing the 3G and the 3GS screens |

Hi,
I received my new iPhone 3GS today which i ordered through Carphone Warehouse. I stuck O2 sim in, activated it and synced with iTunes (using the restore from my old 3G as suggested on apple site) As soon as I got it up and running I was surprised at the DULL screen - colours washed out. I checked brightness and it was set to half way with auto on - yes it got brighter if I adjusted it - but the colours were still washed out. I have compared it side by side with my iPhone 3g on some photos and videos (e.g. Toy Story) the older 3g looks much better. I have checked the serial number - 4th and 5th digits tell you the production week - mine is week 23. It seems that yellow tint problems are more prevalent in week 21-23 though some people have also had problems with week 24/25. Anyway - this has put a real downer on this upgrade which I have been looking forward to. I could cope with a slight colour temperature difference - i.e. slight more yellow, but I am not going to put up with the washed out colours and lack of contrast. Also, in reference to the 'warmer by design' comment - there are numerous reports of apple employees in US stores acknowledging the issue and swapping out devices for unhappy customers. I will be calling Carphone Warehouse tomorrow AM to see what they suggest. Please can any other UK people respond to this thread with their findings? Only things I noticed with the 3GS is that the screen appears to be way brighter than the 3G. The 2G looks almost blue when side by side with the 3G and 3GS.
I turned the brightness way down (about 10%ish) to get close to the way I had the 3G set (30%ish) The 3G does, however, suffer from a high pitch whine when doing the following: pressing the lock key after sending an SMS recording video You can stop the high pitch noise by switching to silent mode otherwise it is annoying. Of course if you are over 18 you may not notice the noise. Unfortunately I am able to hear frequencies up to 19 Khz (which i should not be able to hear at 36 yrs old) so the whine from the 3GS is quite annoying. Also, after visiting the iPhone store they confirmed that the high pitch noise is on ALL 3GS but should be patched out soon. |

dont like it. anyone else noticed I have noticed the very same thing and am not happy one little bit. I own a 16GB Ipod Touch (1st Gen) and a 1st Gen Iphone; along with access to a 3G. I purchased the 3GS yesterday (16GB Black) and I cannot believe how 'nicotine stained' the display feels. There is simply no element of white in there at all, its a dull yellow .. my 1st Gen Ipod Touch had a slight warm tint to it and my 1st Gen Iphone has a nice cool tint. I don't mind a warm setting as long it feels natural .. but losing white for yellow, you must be joking! This is a problem .. |

May I ask where you found the 3GS 16 because I thought it is sold out from eveywhere

Right, I have done a lot more testing between the iPod 1st & Iphone 1st Generation along with my new Iphone 3GS ..
I fired each one up and loaded in LCD Test images from: www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ and compared each of them to all of the images. It seems that Red varies between each of the devices (3GS seeming pinker to Oranger on the others) along with Blue on the 3GS giving a much more robust darker tone. Furthermore, comparisons with the Gradient test showed the 3GS to be better; and at the end of the day, it's probably just the initial "this is so much different.." -- but real world tests will more than likely show webpages, etc. displaying perfectly fine with a more 'warming' tone than many of us are used to. I also think if anyone looks at the adverts on the apple website of the phone being demoed, they too show warm colouring of whites. Will give it a few more days before being certain, but so far I think it might just require us to get used to the changes. "Warm2" is a setting that most new HDTVs should be set to for accurate movie displays, etc.. and it seems that this might be a similar push for the new iPhone devices. |

I just did a side by side comparison of my 3gs and 3g and can certaily tell the difference between the two.
The whites on the 3gs are yellowy. I find this unacceptable, I want my whites to be white, not immitation white. a phone costing this much (pay and go) shouldn't have any quality issues so I am returning it tomorrow to o2. |

Have also done a side by side comparison with my 3GS and another and completely take back what I wrote earlier. THERE IS A *BIG* DIFFERENCE!!!
It really comes over in a side by side comparison as a dirty yellow. I will not be returning the phone for a full refund and will in no way be accepting a replacement as I feel nothing but content for products that are sold like this! |
